CORPORATION OF THE VILLAGE OF SUNDRIDGE

 

 

                                    The regular meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the

                                    Village of Sundridge was held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008

                                    at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

 

PRESENT:                 Mayor Elgin Schneider, Councillors Sue Ayotte, Bill de Vries,

                                    Barry Morris and Lawrie Vincer.

 

STAFF PRESENT:    Lillian S. Fowler, Clerk-Treasurer

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Mayor Elgin Schneider.

 

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

The agenda had been circulated to council.  It was

MINUTES

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

INTERNAL COMMITTEE/BOARD MINUTES

The Council reviewed the minutes of the Sundridge, Strong & Joly Arena & Hall & Ballfield Committee meeting held on September 8, 2008.

 

The Council reviewed the minutes of the Central Almaguin Recreation Committee meeting held on September 4, 2008.

 

The Council reviewed the minutes of the South River- Sundridge & District Airport Committee meetings held on April 1, May 6, June 3 and August 5, 2008.

 

The Council reviewed the minutes of the Central Almaguin Planning Board meeting held on September 17, 2008.

 

The Council reviewed the minutes of the Parry Sound District Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee held on September 18, 2008.

 

FOLLOW-UP BUSINESS/NEW BUSINESS

Six building permits Numbers 13-08SU, 14-08SU, 15-08SU, 16-08SAU, 17-08SU and 18-08SU were presented to Council for their information.

 

The August 2008 Chief Building Official’s Report was presented to Council for their information.

 

By-Law Enforcement Reports for May, June and July 2008 were presented to Council for their information.

 

The accounts payable for the Corporation of the Village of Sundridge were presented.  It was

That the accounts payable for the Corporation of the Village of Sundridge in the amount of $189,152.98 be approved for payment.  Carried.

 

A draft of the 2009 Accessibility Plan was presented to Council for their review.

 

By-Law No. 2008-018 was presented.  It was

That By-Law No. 2008-018, being a by-law to appoint a representative to the Central Almaguin Recreation Committee be introduced and read a first, second and third time and finally passed this 30th day of September, 2008.  Carried.

 

Resolution No. 276-08 dated August 18, 2008 from the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley re Amendment of Assessment Act was presented.  It was

That the Council of the Corporation of the Village of Sundridge support resolution No. 276-08 of the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley dated August 18, 2008 re Requesting the Minister of Finance to amend the Assessment Act to exempt municipally owned property that is located in neighbouring municipalities from all municipal and education taxes.  Carried.

 

Resolution No. CR-341.08 dated August 13, 2008 from the Town of Innisfil re Ontario Energy Board Order was presented.  No action was taken.

 

A resolution dated July 22, 2008 from the Municipality of Tweed re Requesting Provincial and Federal Governments to become involved and reduce taxes on petroleum products including the Provincial road taxes and the Federal Excise Tax was presented. It was

That the Council of the Corporation of the Village of Sundridge support a resolution of the Municipality of Tweed re Requesting Provincial and Federal Gov’ts become involved and reduce taxes on petroleum products, including the Provincial road taxes and Federal Excise Tax.  Carried. 

 

A resolution dated September 8, 2008 of the Ton of Fort Erie re Hospital Improvement Plan was presented.  No action was taken.

 

The Central Almaguin Economic Development Association is ready to make application for funding for a Strategic Plan for the four municipalities.  It was

Be it resolved that the Corporation of the Village of Sundridge support the Central Almaguin Economic Development Association in submitting an application to FedNor and to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund for funding in order to hire a consulting firm to prepare a Strategic Plan for Economic Development in the Central Almaguin area and that the Corporation of the Village of Sundridge be authorized to make application as the lead municipality on behalf of all four municipalities – the Villages of South River and Sundridge and the Townships of Machar and Strong.  Carried.
