"Sunny Sundridge" - The Village by the Lake
Sundridge is a picturesque village located at the intersection of
Highway 11 and 124 in the heart of the Almaguin Highlands. This
Village with a population of 1000 residents welcomes visitors
and guests to share in the enjoyment of living on the shores of
beautiful Lake Bernard. Lake Bernard is listed in the Guinness World
Book of records as being the largest freshwater lake without an
island.
Located 2½ hours north of Toronto, Sundridge has lots to offer
tourists as well as people planning to relocate to the area. Sundridge
has all the amenities of home and is centrally located, within 45
minutes to one hour's drive to North Bay, Huntsville and Parry Sound.
Sundridge is a beautiful village
surrounded by the supporting townships of Strong and Joly. Together
they offer an irresistible package of the shared services
of an arena, baseball diamonds, High Rock Lookout and the Sundridge
and District Medical Centre. Sundridge is home
to the Sundridge-Strong Volunteer Fire Department and the
Sundridge-Strong Union Public Library.
The
Village of Sundridge was established in the year 1889 and joyously
celebrated its centennial in 1989 on the shores of beautiful Lake
Bernard. This year round playground
has provided many years of pleasure to the residents and visitors to
the area. Many people have enjoyed warm summer days, on its sandy
beaches and swimming in its shallow waters as well as boating and
fishing the plentiful
lake trout and whitefish. In the winter, Lake Bernard proves to be
just as entertaining by offering ice fishing and snow-mobiling.
Sundridge has the largest shopping selection within a sixty kilometer
radius. It boasts a large grocery store and two hardware stores for
all the home improvements that may have to be done. There are no
problems in
Sundridge to find the necessary goods as a visitor or as a permanent
resident. There is a full-line General Motors Dealership as well as a
full-line Chrysler/Jeep/Eagle Dealership along with two used car lots.
The car dealers of Sundridge have been well known for all the great
car deals in the past as well as those that will take place in the
future. A casual stroll through our village streets will make people
aware of
the many unique businesses, restaurants and corner variety stores that
cater to residents and tourists. There is a large resort,
centrally located and only steps away from the Water Front and
municipal dock.
There is a wealth of things to do, both summer and winter, in and
around Sundridge and District. Our many churches and service groups
offer many types of activities that make the visit or joy of living
worthwhile in Sundridge. Sundridge is home to many
attractions and annual events that are listed on our community events
page. Just steps outside of the village you will find yourself within
a
lovely hardwood forest, which lends itself to the production of some
of the best maple syrup in the world. In the spring, many syrup
producers open their doors and offer maple products and tours of their
sugar bush.
In the fall, this producer of syrup sets a beautiful backdrop of fall
foliage for Lake Bernard.
Sundridge is hometown proud of their many successful athletes,
especially in association with the sport of hockey. It is home of
the famous Sundridge Beavers Hockey
team whom have won many different Ontario championships. Sundridge has
had it fair share of NHL players, Bucko MacDonald (Stanley Cup 1936,
1937, 1942), Keith McCreary, Bill McCreary, Ron Attwell, Bob Attwell,
Greg Theberge and Greg deVries (Stanley Cup 2001). The revitalization
of Men's Fastball will also bring some excitement to the sports world.
If you are just passing through, be it by car or snowmobile, stop and
visit for a while and see for yourself what makes Sundridge a
wonderful place to live.
