Lake Health

Our lake is our most valuable asset. Keeping Lake Bernard healthy is a benefit for all of us!

You can do your part by only flushing appropriate items. Remember, what you flush does eventually make its way into our water system. Please only flush toilet paper!

What not to flush?
  • wet wipes,
  • feminine-care products,
  • diapers,
  • kitchen grease,
  • cigarette butts,
  • cosmetics,
  • cotton swabs,
  • dental floss,
  • perfume or cologne,
  • isopropyl alcohol,
  • hydrogen peroxide,
  • anti-freeze,
  • bleach,
  • brake fluid,
  • detergents,
  • disinfectants,
  • mothballs,
  • pool chemicals,
  • needles and syringes,
  • medications,
  • paint,
  • rat poison

Flushing these types of items can lead to sewage overflows in your home or business, streets, and natural environment. They can also cause costly damage to your property and to local wastewater infrastructure. Depending on the item, proper disposal may be made during HAZMAT days at the landfill, regular waste collection, or at the pharmacy.
